영구수료(예정)생의 학위청구논문 제출연한 연장 신청 안내
1. 신청요건
1) 본 대학원 석사, 박사과정을 수료하고 부득이한 사유로 학위청구논문 제출연한(입학년도로부터 석사과정은 6년, 박사과정은 10년)이 경과 되어 현재 영구수료 된 자 및 영구수료 예정자
2) 신청자는 대학원위원회의 심의를 거쳐 승인을 받아야 함
2. 제출 서류
1) 특례 신청서 (양식 첨부)
2) 사유서 (양식 자유)
3) 2항에 대한 증빙자료
※ 위 1), 2), 3)을 행정실로 제출하면 학과에서 대학원 위원회를 개최하여 심의함
3. 제출 기간: ~ 2026년 6월 30일(화) 16:00 * 제출 기한 엄수
4. 제출 방법: 국제대학원 이메일(gsis@korea.ac.kr)로 제출
5. 심의: 신청자에 한해 방학 중(7월) 심의하여 다음 학기(9월) 진입
6. 유의사항
1) 신청/허가 횟수 제한 및 연장 학기 수: 학위청구논문 제출연한 연장 신청 및 허가는 1회 에 한하며,
- 영구수료자는 허가받은 학기를 포함 2학기 이내에
- 영구수료예정자는 신청한 학기(2학기 또는 4학기) 이내에
석사, 박사학위논문을 제출하여 통과해야 함
2) 학위청구논문제출 자격시험: 영구수료자만 해당(예정자는 해당사항 없음)
- 대학원위원회에서 허가한 연장 대상자는 학위청구논문제출 자격시험(종합시험
및 영어/제2외국어 시험)에 모두 합격해야 함
- [종합시험(박사과정생만 해당)]: 박사과정생의 경우 이미 자격시험에 합격(또는 면제)한 자라도 종합시험은 다시 응시하여 합격해야만 학위청구논문을 제출할 수 있음
- 박사과정생의 경우 연장이 허가된 자가 허가일 기준 5년 이내의 기간에 한국학술지인용색인 등재지(KCI) 이상 수준의 학술지에 논문을 게재하였음을 증명하는 경우, 종합시험을 면제할 수 있음
▶2026학년도 2학기 종합시험 예정일: 2026년 9월 말 예정
- [영어/제2외국어 시험]: 재적 당시 기합격한 외국어시험 합격한 경우 외국어시험 합격으로 인정됨, 박사과정의 제2외국어시험은 재적생과 동일하게 적용함
3) 등록금: 대학원위원회에서 인정한 연장대상자는 자격시험에 응시하고 학위청구논문을 제출하기 위하여 소정의 등록금(수업료의 12%)을 정규등록기간에 매 학기 납부하여야 함(단, 영구수료자는 진입한 첫 학기는 재입학금이 추가로 부과됨)
4) 재적 당시 기위촉 지도교수가 퇴임한 경우 현재 재직 중인 교원으로 지도교수를 변경해야 함

Application Guidelines for Extension of Time Limit for Thesis/Dissertation Submission (Fall 2026)
1. Eligibility Requirements: Students who have completed a MA/Ph.D program at GSIS, but failed to submit their thesis/dissertation within the designated time limit for submission, either currently classified as permanently completed students or expected to receive permanently completed student status in the upcoming semester.

- MA : 6 years from the year of admission
- Ph.D : 10 years from the year of admission
All applicants must receive approval through deliberation by the Graduate School Committee.
2. Required Documents: Applicants must submit all of the following documents
1) Application (Request) for Master's[Doctoral] Thesis[Dissertation] Submission Extension (using the attached form)
2) Statement of Reasons (free format)
3) Supporting documents verifying the reasons stated above
※ Documents 1), 2), and 3) must be submitted to the GSIS Administrative Office. The department, upon submission, will convene the Graduate School Committee for deliberation.
3. Submission Period: By June 30, 2026 (Tuesday), 16:00
※ Late submissions will not be accepted.
4. Submission Method: Submit all required documents via email to the GSIS Administrative Office : gsis@korea.ac.kr
5. Review Process: Applications will be reviewed during the summer break (July).
- Approved applicants will be allowed to re-enter the program in the following semester (September 2026).
6. Important Notes
1) Regarding the number of eligible applications and the number of extended semesters for submission

- Application and approval for extension of the thesis/dissertation submission deadline are limited to one time only.
[Number of Extended Semesters]
- Permanently completed students must submit and pass their master’s or doctoral thesis/dissertation within two semesters, including the semester in which the extension is granted.
- Expected permanently completed students must submit and pass their thesis/dissertation within the applied period (two or four semesters).
2) Regarding qualification examinations
※ Only applicable to permanently completed students (not to expected students)
- Students approved for extension by the Graduate School Committee must pass all qualification examinations required for thesis/dissertation submission (comprehensive examination and English/second foreign language examination).
(a) Additional note on comprehensive examination for Ph.D students
- In the case of Ph.D students, even if a student previously passed (or was exempted from) the qualification examinations, the comprehensive examination must be retaken and passed in order to submit the thesis/dissertation.
- This comprehensive examination requirement for Ph.D students may be waived if the student provides proof of publication of an article in a KCI-indexed or higher-level academic journal within five years earlier than the approval date.

(b) Additional note on foreign language examination
- If a student previously passed the foreign language examination during enrollment, the result will remain valid.
- The second foreign language examination for doctoral students shall be applied in the same manner as for currently enrolled students.
3) Regarding tuition: Students approved for extension must pay the prescribed registration fee each semester during the regular registration period in order to take qualification examinations and submit their thesis/dissertation.
- The registration fee is 12% of the regular tuition.
- Permanently completed students will be additionally charged a re-admission fee in their first semester of re-entry.
4) Regarding retired academic advisors: If the academic advisor appointed during the student’s enrollment has retired, the student must request a change of academic advisor to a faculty member who is currently in service.
