Thesis Submission for Spring 2025
※ Both Step ①: online application and Step ②: the required document must be submitted during each submission period.
<Before Defense>
1-1. Eligibility
(1) Expected graduates in August 2025 who have passed (or exempted from) the qualification exams
(General Exam, Korean Language Test (for Korean Studies only)) and research proposal are eligible to submit the thesis.

(2) Expected graduates in August 2025 who have completed the Research Ethics course
* How to: Refer to #1-5. Research Ethics Online Course Manual
Students who have already completed the "Research Ethics Education" course offered on the previous Blackboard system, or those participating in the BK21 Phase 4 program who can provide proof of completing a required course (such as the online training offered by the Korea Institute of Human Resources Development in Science and Technology (KIRD)), may have it accepted as a substitute for the required course.

1-2. Submission Period for Application & Thesis Draft
Step ①: Online Application
(1) Period: Monday, April 21, 2025 – 16:00 Friday, April 25, 2025
(2) KUPID → [Registration/Graduation] → [Evaluation for Thesis] · Evaluation of Thesis (Masters and Doctoral)
* Refer to #1-4. Online Application on KUPID Manual
* The Online Application cannot be accepted after the Online Application Period.
No excuse is accepted, please meet the deadline.
* Once the Online Application is submitted, it cannot be canceled.
Step ②: Required Documents Submission
(1) Period: Monday, April 21, 2025 – 16:00 Friday, April 25, 2025
(2) Please submit all documents to the GSIS Administration Office in person (not email).
* Once the required documents are submitted, they cannot be returned.
* In case you are not able to get the handwritten signature from the professor, you must prove the acceptation with the email sent from the professor.
Document #1) 3 or 5 Copies of Thesis Draft for the Evaluation
- [MA] Consult with your supervisor regarding your dissertation defense and submit 3 copies of dissertation draft for the Dissertation Evaluation Committee (your supervisor and 2 committee members) by the deadline set by your supervisor.
- [PhD] submit 5 copies of dissertation draft for the Dissertation Evaluation Committee (your supervisor and 4 committee members) by the deadline set by your supervisor.

* The tuition is non-refundable for any reason.

2-1. Master's Thesis Defense: Friday, May 30th, 2025
* Consult with your thesis advisor regarding the schedule & online/offline methods.
* The schedule will be posted on the GSIS website on Monday, May 22th, 2025.
* All candidates must do the dissertation defense. If not, you will be automatically failed.
* After the defense, revise the draft according to the comments you received or consult with your thesis advisor if you need an extra semester to complete it.

2-2. Doctoral Dissertation Defense
* Doctoral Dissertation Defense should be conducted 2 times (online or offline) by your supervisor. For offline defense, you should reserve a classroom of International Studies Hall according to the defense schedule.
* All candidates must do the dissertation defense. If not, you will be automatically failed.
* After the defense, revise the draft according to the comments you received or consult with your supervisor if you need an extra semester to complete it.

3. Dissertation Online Upload Period on the KU Library Website
(1) Period: 09:00 Monday, July 7, 2025 – 16:30 Friday, July 18, 2025
(2) Details will be TBA in the end of May, 2025.
* Graduates do not need to print the completed thesis and submit it in person to the KU Library.
