Professor Changrok Soh elected as the Chair of the UN Human Rights Committee
Professor Changrok Soh, will serve as the chair of the U.N. Human Rights Committee on monitoring the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). He will serve a two-year term through 2027.
He is the first Korean member to join the UN Human Rights Committee since South Korea joined the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in 1990. He has been serving as a member of the committee since 2021. Professor Soh is a leading international human rights expert in South Korea, having previously served as a member of the UN Human Rights Council Advisory Committee (2014–2020) and as President of the Korean Society of International Law (2019–2020).
His election as Chair is seen as a recognition of his high level of expertise and his active contributions to the promotion and protection of human rights across various sectors, including the UN, academia, and civil society.
